An independent microbiological research laboratory in the UK confirmed that face masks recently developed by the SBA Utenos Trikotažas Group are 96% effective against against various microorganisms, including viruses. This feature was reached by treating the products with a unique antiviral technology.

The testing was conducted in accordance with the international standard, ISO 18184, which determines antiviral activity of textile products. The test results showed that the fabric used by Utenos Trikotažas deactivates viruses and other microorganisms on the surface of the fabric.

Swiss technology successfully applied in manufacturing

Antimicrobial properties are achieved by successful adopting special Swiss technology designed to strengthen the resistance of textile products to various contaminants. Its efficacy against the Covid-19 virus is up to 99.9%. It is one of the most effective anti-viral textile technologies available today, whose effectiveness, sustainability and safety are supported by research, certificates and significant awards.

“In March we were among the first textile manufacturers in Lithuania to start production of face masks. Since then, we have been very interested in innovative technologies that would enhance the protective properties of our face masks. Today we offer the best we could create using the latest technologies currently available, and our long-term manufacturing experience,” said Petras Jasinskas, CEO of Utenos Trikotažas.

Deactivating microoganisms on the surface

Face masks have recently become an integral part of life, and many people are used to wearing them. However, they are not always cared properly. If a face mask is poorly maintained, viruses and bacteria may accumulate on its surface, which may create an additional risk of contamination. With the application of advanced technology, face masks gain additional resistance against various infections – microorganisms are deactivated within hours.

The new collection of face masks from Utenos Trikotažas has been supplemented with two different models – single colour or pattern. The masks are already available online at www.utenostrikotazas.lt.

3D design for perfect fit

“In addition to protective technologies, we also focused on the design to make the mask as comfortable as possible. In the design process, therefore, innovative 3D modelling technology was used to create a perfect fit on the face. We have developed masks of different sizes, and special straps allow the mask to be adjusted for event better fit,” said Renata Varaneckienė, UTENA brand manager.

If the maintenance instructions are observed, and the mask is washed at a temperature of up to 40°C, it should retain its condition for up to 30 washing cycles. Due to the antimicrobial properties, it is not necessary to wash the mask every day – washing several times a week is sufficient, depending on the intensity of wear.

Masks manufactured by Utenos Trikotažas are non-medical and are for repeated use. The masks are an additional means to help stop the spread of pathogens, but do not necessarily protect healthy people against infection.
