In the annual competition “Lithuanian Product of the Year”, a product of the About brand manufactured by Utenos Trikotažas – an ecological bra made from Tencel fibre and Merino wool – was awarded a silver medal. This isnot the first award earned by Utenos Trikotažas for its special focus on ecologic production. Textile innovations and particular attention to environmental protection have prevailed in recent years in the future forecasts of the textile industry.

The unique composition and unusual design of the About bra distinguish it from other similar products. The bra contains Tencel – cellulose Lyocell fibre made from timber of strictly supervised forests only, which decomposes naturally without leaving any residual negative consequences due to its 100% biological origin. Wool contained in the article is also derived from farms complying with the highest production and ethical standards (mulesing-free farms), where animals are kept in open, non-fertilised fields and do not experience pain or stress. The material the article is made from is noted for its especially good moisture evaporation qualities, is hygienic – does not allow the bacteria to propagate – and does not irritate sensitive skin prone to allergies.

Recognised by international sales partners in the USA, Japan and France

The product was first presented to the international market in the trade shows held in Paris in winter 2018 and immediately captured international sales partners, including one of the most influential stores in the French capital, Merci. Currently, the silver medal winning “Lithuanian product of the year” is offered in Utenos Trikotažas’ online shop and physical outlets, as well as in conceptual stores with long-term experience in Austria, France, Norway, Belgium, Japan, South Korea and the USA.

Eco-conscious production promoted equally by buyers and customers

“Global trends in the textile industry have lately being focusing strongly on ecological and sustainable production and the associated innovations. We already envisaged this trend back in 2012 and have been preparing for it very diligently since 2014: we invested in laboratory testing and reviewed each stage of the production process in detail. We have not used harmful substances in our production for quite some time now – small quantities of chemicals are recorded only in individual stages of production, however, they are not detrimental to human health or the environment”, says the Director General of Utenos Trikotažas Algirdas Šabūnas.

Utenos Trikotažas has officially been part of the Greenpeace “Detox” project since 2017 and committed itself to eliminate the raw materials that might have a detrimental impact on people or the environment from its production chain by 2020. Part of the SBA Concern Group, Utenos Trikotažas is the only Lithuanian company participating in the project and one of the few in the world who have a vertically integrated production cycle, i.e. all production processes from production of materials to end product ready for wearing are carried out under one roof.
